Family Update

As I'm sure you all experienced from my pregnancy blog, I have a tendency to blog a lot all at once. I'm sorry that I've been so behind! I still need to blog about Thanksgiving, and it's practically New Year's!

Anyway, a little update about what's been going on with us....

I went back to work on December 6th. It hasn't been too bad. We have a wonderful babysitter - Lauren, that we love! She is like another mom to Eli. Work has been O.K., but it's been hard not really getting to spend time with Eli for two days in a row.

On Monday, Dec 21st, Eli will be going to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta @ Scottish Rite for placement of a pH probe to monitor his reflux. He had his medicine increased about 3 weeks ago, and last week it just stopped working as well. We're having to do a little investigative research to figure this out!

We are looking forward to the week ahead - BOTH sets of Eli's grandparents are coming to visit, and we are looking forward to some fun family time and a little belated Hannukah celebration with the Blaiss clan.

Hopefully I will get a chance to upload some of the new videos I have taken, and maybe even catch up on the blog posts themselves while there are lots of people here to love on Eli.

Happy New Year!

Eli is 3 months old!

Time sure flies when you're having fun! I can't believe Eli is 13 weeks/3 month old already! It has been a very exciting month for him - he took his first road trip to Florida for Thanksgiving, he attended his first FSU football game (which also happened to be Bobby Bowden's last home game) AND they won, he tailgated, he had his first playdate with his cousin Trippe, he had his first experience sleeping in an RV, and he celebrated his first Thanksgiving!

Unofficially, here are Eli's current stats:

Ht: Somewhere just over 22 inches
Wt: 11 lbs 5.6 oz

Always In Our Hearts - RIP Shelly

Joel and I lost a good friend today. At 5:30 this morning, our friend Shelly Jones lost her battle with Crohn's Disease. She left behind a wonderful husband and beautiful 8 month old baby girl - Ella Shoshanah (many of you have seen her birth announcement on my fridge).

I am completely in shock that this has happened, despite the fact that I felt it in my heart for the past few days.

If you feel it in your heart, a collection has been started by all of her friends on TheBump.com (which is how I met her). Please visit Shelly's Support Team

Here are a few pics of Shelly that I have....

All Smiles (and other silly faces)!

Eli has developed such a little personality in the last few weeks! He loves to coo at people, and especially his best friends - "Mr. Octopus" (on his Baby Einstein playmat) and "Monkey & Parrot" (on his bouncy seat). Here are a few of the silly faces he enjoys making...there is also a video of the first time I caught his smile on film, and a few stills from the video. Enjoy!

This is his typical reaction when he sees "Mr. Octopus", and it usually accompanied by a lot of kicking and wiggling!

This was the first time I had ever seen him make this face - Joel, Jr.!

2 months and counting!

This post is a little (okay, a lot) behind - sorry! Eli has certainly "woken up" in the last few weeks, so it's been a little hard to find time to share him with everyone. Here is Eli's official 2 month (and 1 day - I'm always late) picture and stats (from 11/5):

Wt: 10 lb 14 oz (29th %)
Ht: 21-1/2 in (6th %)

He got 4 shots and 1 oral vaccine at this appointment, and he was a REAL trooper. Dr. Loventhal also declared him completely cleared of his jaundice, so we were spared another owie at the lab!!!

A visit with cousin Shane

Yesterday, Eli took his first trip to visit his Uncle Adam, Aunt Carly, and cousin Shane at their house in Alpharetta. Shane was NOT happy to share his mommy with Eli, but he had a good time checking him out and helping Carly burp the baby. Here's a short little video of the experience....

Here are a couple of photos as well...

She certainly can juggle!!!

Fun on the Floor!

Within the last few days, Eli has started to actually enjoy being on the floor playing with his Baby Einstein gym. Although his movements aren't quite purposeful yet, he still reacts when he manages to hit something with his hands! Please enjoy the videos - most are from the day he turned 7 weeks old!

Family in Florida

I had a little fun with the video camera at our big Shabbos dinner while Eli and I were in Florida. I thought it would be fun to document the moment....here's a little clip!

Up, Up, and Away!

Last week, on October 13th, Eli and I ventured to Florida to meet the new Kauffman babies and help welcome them into the family. At just under 6 weeks old, Eli was a fantastic flying companion! He received tons of praise from airport personnel and other passengers - I'm such a proud mommy! Here is a short clip of Eli waiting to board his first airplane ride!

Welcome Baby Kauffman - Team Orlando!

Announcing the birth of

Trippe Isaac Kauffman

October 6th, 2009
8:54 PM
Wt: 7 lb 2 oz
Ht: 20"

It is so crazy to me that Eli has gained another cousin in less than a week! I am so excited for my brother, Sam and sister-in-law, Becca! I know they will be wonderful parents - they chose me for the Godmother so you KNOW they are smart! Just kidding....

Seriously, though, Trippe's birth puts an end to the adventure of the triple-pregnancies (which I'm sure my parents are glad about) and starts the beginning of the rest of our lives watching these three grow up together. Even though they live a pretty good distance from each other, I know that my brothers and I will make sure that they form a close relationship. My parents are already planning the B'nai Mitzvah in Israel......

Since Trippe's bris will be on 10/13 and Sharon's naming is 10/17, I have decided (with Joel's blessing) to take Eli and fly to Florida for the week. I know my dad was shocked (almost to tears, I could hear it) when I called to ask him if he was ok with us coming down for the whole time. I am so excited that Sam, Becca, and Erika get to meet Eli, and I am just as excited to meet my newest niece and nephew, and for Eli to meet his new cousins!

Eli's One Month Old!

Hard to believe that our little man is over a month old already! Time sure flies when you are having fun! (Did you think I'd say "sleep-deprived"? - I'm actually not.)

Here is a pic of Eli at one month and one day old...

Today, we went for Eli's 1-month check-up. He has been having problems with excessive spitting-up and vomiting, and he's still a bit jaundice, but otherwise he is doing great! His stats are:

Weight: 8 lb 9 oz
(19th percentile - up from 11th percentile 10 days ago)

Length: 20 1/4 inches
(7th percentile)

Head: 35 cm
(4th percentile)

Because he is still jaundice, we went and had blood drawn after the appointment to make sure everything is still related to the breastfeeding. Eli was such a trooper when they drew the blood, and he calmed down while the needle was still in his arm and he was still being held down! I am so proud of him! He also had to get his second Hep B vaccine while we were at the doctor's - that was worse for him. He turned beet-red and held his breath....but he recovered quickly with a little TLC from mommy.

We are going to try eliminating tomatoes and dairy (this is how much I love my son) from my diet, and we'll see if that helps with his reflux. He's also graduated from Axid to Prevacid. Hopefully the combo of these changes will help him be a little more comfortable.....

Rub a dub dub, who's in the tub?

Well, he finally did it! Eli had his first major diaper blowout this afternoon. He turned 4 weeks old today, and we were planning to give him his first tub bath later today anyway since his belly button finally healed, so we just moved it a little bit earlier!

We weren't sure what his reaction would be, but he handled it like a champ - not a peep out of him! Hopefully bath time will continue to be something we can all enjoy!

Welcome Baby Kauffman - Team Clearwater!

I didn't really mention this on the baby blog, but this has been a VERY interesting 9 months....you see, not only was I pregnant, but BOTH of my older brothers' wives were pregnant as well! Yesterday, my oldest brother Joe, his wife - Erika, and their daughter Rachel proudly welcomed the newest member of the Kauffman family!

We are so excited to welcome this beautiful little girl into our family, and we can't wait to meet her! Congratulations to mom, dad, and big sister - Rachel!!!!

Oh, and funny story.....I talked to Joe last night, and he was telling me that to prep Rachel for the birth, they went to get a present for the baby since it was her birthday. Rachel, in her infinite wisdom, wanted to know if there was going to be cake at this birthday party...so they got a cake! So cute!

More videos!

Now that I have figured out how to do this correctly, here are some more videos for your viewing pleasure...

Eli's 1st Bath

Eli and "Aunt" Sarah - 2 days old

Eli & Daddy - 3 days old

Getting Dressed to Go Home!

Leaving the Hospital -4 days old!

Rockin' and Rollin'

I put Eli down for his second try at "tummy time" yesterday (at 3 weeks and 2 days old), and I couldn't believe what he did - he rolled from his tummy to his back! At first, I thought it had to be a fluke, but when I put him back on his stomach he did it again. I shouted for Joel to bring me the Flip Camera so we could catch it on video! Enjoy!

Happy New Year!

Rosh Hashanah is just 2 days away! Actually, it starts tomorrow night. It is the beginning of a new year in the Jewish calendar. It is a time of reflection, thanksgiving, and a promise for a sweet year ahead.

This year, things are just a little sweeter. Our son, Elias Solomon, was due on Sept 19th - the 1st Day of Rosh Hashanah. We were blessed (2 weeks ago today) on September 3rd, when Eli decided to join our family just a little bit early!

We have had the honor and privilege of being his parents for 14 days now, and in that time we have already seen what joy and blessing he has brought to the world. It is a miraculous event when anyone gets the opportunity to bring life into the world, and it is an awesome privilege to be able to nurture and guide this little boy as he goes through life!

So, as we prepare for one year to end and another to begin, we reflect on the beauty and sanctity of life. And we wish everyone a happy, healthy, and especially sweet new year!

Love,
The Blaisses
