I'm so behind.....

It's been a very busy month (well, 2) at Casa de Blaiss.

Eli started crawling at 8-1/2 months, and he hasn't looked back! About 3 weeks after that he started pull to stand. He can now successfully take a few steps while holding someone's hands, and he is testing his balance by reaching for things and bending. I can't believe the things he can do! While we were on our cruise, he learned to go up stairs, too!

Here is Eli's 9 month picture, as well....

Eli is 8 months old!

My how time flies! Our sweet boy is getting old so fast.....2/3 of a year gone by already!

Mother's Day

We officially celebrated our first Mother's Day as a family of three. I usually dread any kind of day that is about me because I'm afraid of disappointment. At any rate, THIS day was perfect!

I woke up in the morning to a happy little boy, a cute card, and a perfect little gift - one of these birthstone kids (in Sapphire)! It was perfect!
Joel came up with the idea to go to the GA Renaissance Festival - I didn't even know it was even time for that yet. Shows you how much I pay attention to things! It was an absolutely gorgeous day with my absolutely gorgeous family! I couldn't have asked for anything better! Below are some pics from the day.

Silly Boy!

Today was an interesting day with Eli....during breakfast, I was being brave and decided not to put a bib on him......BIG mistake! It probably wasn't too bright to feed him prunes and cereal when he is on this big "I can feed myself" kick!

Despite being a big mess and needing a bath, he did a great job! I gave him a spoon to *try* to keep his hands occupied, but he decided that he was going to use it to "help" me feed him. I noticed he was "dipping" his spoon on the tray and putting it into his mouth over and over, so I showed him how to do it in the bowl of cereal....and he did it! What a smart boy!

After a bath and a nap, we went downstairs to play. I don't know if he practicing to be a stand-up comic, but he was so funny this afternoon that I just had to share! I hope this puts a smile on your face like it did for us!

I do it, Mommy!

Eli decided that now that he can pick up some foods on his own, he no longer wants to be fed by spoon. We haven't quite given him the go-ahead to use a spoon himself (I see lots of food on the floor if we do that!), but we are now letting him feed himself - including purees!

Enjoy!

Eli is 7 months old!

I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!
My precious little baby boy is getting so big, with an even bigger personality to go with it! I thought I might take this opportunity to write a little note to him, and share it with all of you.

To my Sweet Little Man - Elias Solomon,

7 months ago you and I were formally introduced to each other, but I knew you long before that. The same little personality you shared with only me for those 37 weeks and 5 days is now the one you share with the world. You are such an amazing child - I watch you intently as you learn and discover new things every day. You are a quiet observer, taking everything in until you have decided your opinion - and then you gladly share it with all of us!

Being your mother has been the greatest thing in my life. When you get older, and you are no longer the baby of our family, always know that you will hold a special place in my heart because it was YOU that made me a mother. You are my first baby, and you will always be my baby. Even when you are grown and have a family of your own - you will be my baby.

I love you so much, and I celebrate each and every day that I have with you. You have brought me such peace, and you have brought so much joy to this crazy world.

I want to thank you for being you, and for choosing me as your mommy. You have taught me more than you will ever know, you have brought me some of the greatest friends, and you have shown me the real purpose of living.

Love,

Your Mama

Our Roly Poly!

All of a sudden Eli turned into a moving machine! Yesterday he started rolling over and over across our bedroom floor, and then we went to Mom & Me and I plopped him down and he sat all by himself!

He became a roller AND a sitter in the same day!!!!

Eli is 4 months old!

Time sure flies when you're having fun keeping up with a growing boy! Over the last month, Eli has had a few setbacks, but overall he has done amazingly well. We are still awaiting the results of his pH probe study, but so far the numbers show that the medicine is working for him. Even better, he grew pretty well this last month!

Current Stats:

Height: 23-3/4" (10th percentile)
Weight: 13 lbs 4oz (18th percentile)

Not only has he grown, he is movin' and groovin' like a champ! A few days ago he started pulling himself across the bed or floor (he has done this in his sleep, but never purposefully after his paci or a toy like he does now)! He also can sit by himself for about 5 seconds, and will sit in a high chair or booster seat without a problem. He LOVES being in the middle of all the action, and he takes EVERYTHING in! He even likes watching TV (his Daddy is so proud that he likes football). He has also started imitating us when we clap or wave by moving his hands toward each other or lifting his hand as if he were going to wave. The other night he actually did wave at me (and both of us saw it and looked at each other like we weren't sure what happened)!

On the language front (very important to his Daddy the Speech Pathologist), Eli is holding "conversations", imitating sounds, and he learned a new skill - shrieking! He uses this new skill to voice his opinion (especially when he's hungry and I'm not moving fast enough)!

Eli has also started staying with a babysitter when I go to work. He has done amazingly well, and I get awesome updates while I'm at work telling me all about his smiling sweet self!

Coming up this month: Eli's second plane trip (to Denver) for his second cousin's Bar Mitzvah, my birthday, Mema's birthday, cousin Rachel's birthday, and Aunt Erika's birthday! It sure is a busy month!

Happy Noon-Year!

Eli and I rang in the new year with our friends from Mom & Me @ a "Noon-Year's Eve Party". We had a lot of fun, and took tons of pictures of our little guys (and girl)!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Boys will be Boys

Eli & Trippe's 1st playdate - way back in November!

Back when we were in Florida for Thanksgiving, Eli and Trippe got to spend some time together enjoying Eli's play gym. Here's a video from this fun event!

Family Update

As I'm sure you all experienced from my pregnancy blog, I have a tendency to blog a lot all at once. I'm sorry that I've been so behind! I still need to blog about Thanksgiving, and it's practically New Year's!

Anyway, a little update about what's been going on with us....

I went back to work on December 6th. It hasn't been too bad. We have a wonderful babysitter - Lauren, that we love! She is like another mom to Eli. Work has been O.K., but it's been hard not really getting to spend time with Eli for two days in a row.

On Monday, Dec 21st, Eli will be going to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta @ Scottish Rite for placement of a pH probe to monitor his reflux. He had his medicine increased about 3 weeks ago, and last week it just stopped working as well. We're having to do a little investigative research to figure this out!

We are looking forward to the week ahead - BOTH sets of Eli's grandparents are coming to visit, and we are looking forward to some fun family time and a little belated Hannukah celebration with the Blaiss clan.

Hopefully I will get a chance to upload some of the new videos I have taken, and maybe even catch up on the blog posts themselves while there are lots of people here to love on Eli.

Happy New Year!

Eli is 3 months old!

Time sure flies when you're having fun! I can't believe Eli is 13 weeks/3 month old already! It has been a very exciting month for him - he took his first road trip to Florida for Thanksgiving, he attended his first FSU football game (which also happened to be Bobby Bowden's last home game) AND they won, he tailgated, he had his first playdate with his cousin Trippe, he had his first experience sleeping in an RV, and he celebrated his first Thanksgiving!

Unofficially, here are Eli's current stats:

Ht: Somewhere just over 22 inches
Wt: 11 lbs 5.6 oz

Always In Our Hearts - RIP Shelly

Joel and I lost a good friend today. At 5:30 this morning, our friend Shelly Jones lost her battle with Crohn's Disease. She left behind a wonderful husband and beautiful 8 month old baby girl - Ella Shoshanah (many of you have seen her birth announcement on my fridge).

I am completely in shock that this has happened, despite the fact that I felt it in my heart for the past few days.

If you feel it in your heart, a collection has been started by all of her friends on TheBump.com (which is how I met her). Please visit Shelly's Support Team

Here are a few pics of Shelly that I have....

All Smiles (and other silly faces)!

Eli has developed such a little personality in the last few weeks! He loves to coo at people, and especially his best friends - "Mr. Octopus" (on his Baby Einstein playmat) and "Monkey & Parrot" (on his bouncy seat). Here are a few of the silly faces he enjoys making...there is also a video of the first time I caught his smile on film, and a few stills from the video. Enjoy!

This is his typical reaction when he sees "Mr. Octopus", and it usually accompanied by a lot of kicking and wiggling!

This was the first time I had ever seen him make this face - Joel, Jr.!

Align Center

2 months and counting!

This post is a little (okay, a lot) behind - sorry! Eli has certainly "woken up" in the last few weeks, so it's been a little hard to find time to share him with everyone. Here is Eli's official 2 month (and 1 day - I'm always late) picture and stats (from 11/5):

Wt: 10 lb 14 oz (29th %)
Ht: 21-1/2 in (6th %)

He got 4 shots and 1 oral vaccine at this appointment, and he was a REAL trooper. Dr. Loventhal also declared him completely cleared of his jaundice, so we were spared another owie at the lab!!!
